St Ambrose was
known as “The reluctant Bishop” and is the patron Saint of learning. He was one
of the most illustrious Fathers and Doctors of the Church, and fitly chosen,
together with St. Augustine, St John Chrysostom, & St. Athanasius to uphold
the venerable chair of the Prince of the Apostles in the Tribune of St. Peters
at Rome. His progress in secular knowledge kept equal pace with his growth in
piety
